Footage of Meghan Markle interacting with royal aides outside Windsor Castle on Saturday has gone viral, with critics and supporters of the controversial figure throwing their comments her way.
Markle, alongside husband Prince Harry, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton, greeted well-wishers who were mourning the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. During the event, two royal aides tried to take flowers off the former actress’ hands.
“I told them I’d place them over there so it’s okay,” Markle seems to tell the first royal aide. “Thank you, I appreciate it though.”
The video quickly went viral, garnering 2.6 million views and thousands of reactions.
Another video shows Markle seemingly unwilling to part with the flowers while speaking to another royal aide, pointing to the previous one who had attempted to take the flowers. The second aide does eventually gather the flowers from the mother of two.

An article from Page Six highlighted the reaction online, with some claiming Markle was being difficult by flouting protocol and potentially doing so for a photo op, while others argued that the former actress is too highly scrutinized.
“She wanted it for the optics but it got squashed by people who know exactly what she’s trying to achieve,” one person wrote. “I’m thinking so she gets the money shot when she places the flowers down with the other floral tributes.”
“She probably wanted to be captured and filmed when she walks alone put flowers over there and put an action,” another said. “Actually, if you think about it, she really is a narcissist, always trying to make everything about her in every occasion! Glad she was stopped!”
“Can’t believe the Meghan bashing has started already, it’s the first time she’s experienced this and was doing her best she probably promised to lay the flowers down herself and that’s what she was going to do till told by Harry it’s alright to pass them over,” one tweet argued.
Another person suggested Markle simply didn’t understand protocol. “She probably didn’t understand that the flowers are taken off them for safety purposes,” the tweet read. “After all there could be a small explosive device, nerve gas, a poisonous insect, any number of things, concealed in them.”
